Angela Douglas (1940-) b. Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, England.

Angela Douglas was born Angela MacDonagh on 29 October 1940 in Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, named after her father’s boss Angelino, who died when she was very young. Her parents ran a number of restaurants when she was growing up, moving eventually to Worthing in West Sussex, where, then in her teens, she joined the town�s Repertory Company.

In 1959, she made her West End d�but, followed very shortly afterwards by her first film, with Donald Pleasence, in The Shakedown and then appeared in It’s All Happening with Tommy Steele. It was whilst she was making Some People in Bristol in 1962 that she met her future husband, screen star Kenneth More. The Comedy Man followed in 1964 before she really hit the headlines in 1965 with her role in Carry on Cowboy playing the stunning, singing and dancing, but trigger-happy Annie Oakley, bringing a touch of glamour to the classic comedy series. She eventually appeared in four Carry On films and she says her favourite was Cowboy, though arguably her best performance was as The Princess Jelhi, Jim Dale�s love interest in Carry On Up the Khyber in 1968. Also that year, she and Kenneth More married, on 17th March.

Since then, she has built up an impressive list of appearances in many of the most popular UK TV series, including Coronation Street, Holby City, Casualty, Soldier Soldier, The Protectors, Jason King, The Avengers, The Saint, Doctor At Large, Gideon�s Way, Dixon of Dock Green, Z Cars and Heartbeat. It was whilst she was regularly appearing in Oil Strike North in 1975, that Kenneth More received the sad news that he was suffering from Parkinson�s disease, so she made the decision to put her career on hold to care for her ailing husband. After his death in July 1982, she returned in various series, including Doctor Who and Peak Practice.

Since that time, whilst she has made a number of films, she has concentrated mainly on her career in journalism and writing, having had a number of books published. In 1988, she met Bill Bryden, the Scottish playwright and director, at a dinner party arranged by Marsha Hunt, a mutual friend. They were married at City Hall, New York City in February 2009 and live in West London.
