Actors

Katie Johnson [Katherine Johnson] (1878-1957) b. Clayton, England, UK.

Katie Johnson

In her latter days Katie was seen almost entirely as sweet little old ladies, this British actress with the kindly, rather noble features slaved away in minor roles for almost her entire career until she was given the leading role of Mrs Wilberforce, the landlady who accidentally confounds a gang of robbers and would-be murderers in Ealing Studios’ The Ladykillers (1955). For it, she won a British Oscar as best actress, and a second plum role, in How to Murder a Rich Uncle (1957).
