A children's drama / comedy about spies I think, on ITV?

All I remember is that a character, played I think by Nigel Hawthorne, has copied a key by making its impression in a bar of soap. He's in the back of a taxi when he realises he's going to be caught, so eats the soap which leaves him foaming at the mouth. His pursuers think he's got rabies.

Would have been late 70s / early 80s.

Don't remember that scene but Nigel Hawthorne was a crime-fighting tea-merchant in Jukes of Piccadilly and, though his customary mode of transport was the bicycle, that does sound like the sort of clever thing he might have done.

Excellently fast response. I see from the BFI database that there's an episode called The Corcelli Medallion, the plot summarised as

If the Italian villain Vincenzo doesn't manage to retrieve the second half of the medallion, Ben is sure to die.

I wasn't sure it was a key he'd copied, and now I'm sure it was the other half of the medallion. Sounds absolutely correct - thanks Capt.

I don't think it's seen the light of day since it was first shown - I remember enjoying it very much indeed. Maybe Network will notice it's got rather good credits (co-starring a very young Dexter Fletcher and written by Robert Holmes and Robert Banks Stewart)
