Quite a few DVD's retain the intermission, two more to add the list are: Ice Station Zebra and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'm sure there are many others.

The above two, also retain the musical prologue. This I recall was to allow the time for the house lights to dim and audience to settle before the performance. proper.

Which is the one at Beaulieu then I wonder?

I was taken on set at Pinewood when they were shooting CCBB and watched Dick van Dyke run up a staircase about 20 times until the director was happy with the take. Very boring watching for a child, but I loved the film when it came out.

    Fun days with my Mary..

    Aitch,
We are not worthy! CCBB is a brilliant film that I've watched many many times. :)

Did anyone see Anton Rodgers as Grandpa Potts in the 2002 stage version?

A great film, one of many big-budget musicals of that era but was this a hit when it came out? There are conflicting reports on how well it did at the box-office, a lot (most?) of the late 60's expensive musicals flopped but I've read conflicting reports about Chitty-some people say it was a disaster and others claim it was a hit.
It's obviously made a lot of money over the years but I just wonder how well it did on original release.

Lots of expensive musical flops around this time-Star!, Darling Lili Dr Dolittle, Goodbye Mr Chips, Paint Your Wagon-although I suspect most of those movies did well at the box-office but failed to make a profit because they were so expensive to make.

Scrooge with Albert Finney is another movie from the same era that some people claim was a big hit while others insist it was a big flop.
