I thought it would be nice to start a thread - after getting Dadsinflame's agreement - on Patrick. It occured to me when I was looking at Cornershop's great screencaps earlier today. My first memories of Patrick are from Cult series Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), The Persuaders! and the Danger Man episode "The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove". But the performance that most left an impression on me was as the security guard in the film "Lifeforce" whereby he was relaxing drinking a coffee when suddenly a naked alien in the form of the lovely Mathilda May walked past him. Patrick's facial expression was superb.

I then met Patrick as part of my care role and got talking to him about some of his film and TV work. My interest in Patrick just grew from there and I found myself getting anything he was in on video and later DVD, even if he only had a brief scene. It didn't matter.

Patrick has appeared in many great films such as I Was Monty's Double, John And Julie, The Strange Affair, One Good Turn, (with Norman Wisdom), Exodus, (with Paul Newman), Brazil, Ragtime, (with the great James Cagney), and Eye Of The Needle, with Donald Sutherland. The latter is my 2nd favourite film of his after Lifeforce.

I must confess I haven't managed to spot Patrick in the Exodus film accurately, but I have in everything else I have seen him in.

His TV appearances that stand out for me, apart from the ones I've mentioned are the Thriller episode "I'm The Girl He Wants To KIll", which Cornershop mentioned on the Exodus thread. One of my favourite Thriller episodes too. It's brilliant. He's also appeared in Poirot, (The Adventure Of Johnnie Waverly), The Professionals, (uncredited in Heroes), 2 episodes of The Avengers, (Death On The Slipway and Bizarre), and an episode of The New Avengers, (Cat Amongst The Pigeons), and another episode of Danger Man, (Such Men Are Dangerous). He also appeared in one of the Edgar Wallace mysteries entitled, Death Trap.

Biggest part Patrick (Dad) ever did was Slade in Flame for those who know or dont know the Film, he has 3 Scenes in it First one in very briefly he plays the Factory boss of Don Powell, in the Film, then has a very long scene with the dame actor by the canel then has a very short scene at the 21st Partyof Don Powell in the Film

Incidentley i dont know if there are any Slade fans on here but in the Summer of 73 Don powell was involved in a serious Car accident, when his then Girl friend was killed and he was in intensive care himself so when the filming with Dad began it took a very long time to do as he had lost his memory, and couldnt remember all the scenes he did so had to keep doing retakes , i was the flavour of the Month at School as at the Time in 74 Slade were The Band

of the time , other noteable appeaarances were Professionals, New Avengers Softly Softly , Z cars, and some bizzare film called Space Vampires with Naked women on set every day, who said filming was all about Take 43

Hi Dadwasinflame. The film you refer to as Space Vampires is the same film I refer to as Lifeforce. The book by Colin Wilson was called Space Vampires and out of loyalty for the book, I always wish they would stick with the original title.

I used to have the American version on video, which is 15 minutes shorter than the European version, which I now have on DVD. The American version seems to be shorter because they seem to assume that film audiences will get bored if the film isn't trimmed to leave only the action scenes left in. Personally I think it is essential to have the 'slow' scenes in to build up the suspense. I much prefer the European version for that reason.

I hope Patrick had to do plenty of re-takes with actress Mathilda May, who incidentally is a successful French singer as well as actress.

Thanks to wellend. I'll repost those captures here if you want. Patrick deserves his own thread.

He's appeared several times during my DVD viewing, most recently a brief role as a Gateman in

Danger Man:Such Men Are Dangerous (1965), here giving directions to star Patrick McGoohan:

Patrick will be appearing in tomorrow's (now today's) episode of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased) on ITV 4. It's on at 6.50am and is repated again at 10.45. He plays the villain Harry who is Jack Lacey's sidekick. It's a great episode.

It's just occured to me after reading all the posts again on this thread that Patrick's episode of The Avengers called Death On The Slipway is one of the many episodes from the first season that is either missing or destroyed. So it's unlikely I'll ever get to see this episode.

I believe this may be one of the "reconstructed" first series episodes that's included in the ongoing DVD releases. By reconstructed I mean it's narration with telesnaps, so Patrick may appear in one of those.

Thanks Gerald. That's good to know. At least that's better than nothing.

I thought I'd give Patrick's thread a bump with scenes from this classic episode of On The Buses. Patrick plays Nobby, the the tour organizer.
It's also worth mentioning that the girl having the photo taken in the first clip is the lovely late Sally Douglas of Carry On fame.

Patrick Connor in 'On the Buses' (1969)

I watched Bon Voyage earlier and was pleased to see Patrick had a good close-up in his main scene:

'You can take your deep-sea diving kit for all I care but don't forget only 33 pounds of baggage are allowed'

I had to search Photobucket to remind me how many Patrick Connor images I'd uploaded there, just so I'd know what to title the above screencap. This is the 4th close-up and is therefore 'Patrick Connor 4'. But I'd forgotten all about the captures where he's with other actors.

Two are from Patrick's second appearance in Danger Man and I recall using one of them at Gerald Lovell's 'Sighted' thread, where I misidentified Ray Marioni. I'll post them some other time, and there is also a 'Good News. Bad News' to compile.

Last night, I browsed the Patrick Connor filmography and learned that he was in TV's The Plane Makers, recently released by Network. Most unfortunately, his only appearance is among the missing episodes. But there is positive news about some of the other credits now available on DVD. More on that soon.

Cheers for the excellent screencap of Patrick Cornershop. Shame about The Plane Makers. Some good news about Patrick. His episode of Menace called Man With A Mission is one of two surviving episodes in the series. Alethea Charlton also guest stars.

Patrick's episode of Poirot, is on ITV 3 right now. It's called The Adventure Of Johnnie Waverly and his scene as a builder has just this minute been on.

Patrick Connor in 'Danger Man' - again

These are the captures from The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove I mentioned last time. Patrick was a
Receptionist at the casino Patrick McGoohan visits. The other actor, uncredited, is Ray Marioni:

    "Good evening, sir."

I don't always achieve a good screencap when there are three actors in the frame. This is the
best one of Ray - subject of that post at the 'Sighted' thread - but his co-stars still look good:

Still my favourite episode so far, and probably my favourite of Patrick's appearances as well.

This is a film of Patrick's that I've been hoping will be released on DVD for some time. No signs as yet! I've never even seen it!
