    Hi all.

I thought I had found this recently, but no.

It is a black and white film, and features a man going into space (on a programme of some kind, in a one or two man capsule), and when he returns, something has happened to him, and from memory, he starts to mutate.

I last saw this as a child (at least over 30 years ago) and seem to recall the returning astronauts arm changing first. it turned into a cactus like shape, and he goes off to hide somewhere (a zoo from memory, where the animals were scared of him).

Please, if anyone knows this, it would be great to see it again.

It sounds like the Quatermass Xperiment.

    The Quartermass Experiment?

There is also a similiar movie from a few years later, First Man Into Space, but more likely you're thinking of Quartermass.

    Thank you wonderful people

You are right in more ways than one lol.

The main film I was thinking of was the quatermass experiment, but I also saw the first man into space....woo hoo, two films to buy and re watch now (happy about that, as the more the merrier).

To be fair to myself. I would have been very young at the time (possibly five or six), and would have only seen them, when my elder brothers let me stay up late to watch tv, when my parents were out for the night (that is the beauty of teenage brothers...no interest in my film education, just wanted to see me scared witless, with no mum and dad to run to).

Thanks for all your help folks

Glad to be of help, I would also recommend Quatermass and the Pit my personal favourite of the Quatermass films.

The films were a spin-off from the TV programmes which were very good too and achieved without the technology available today. A testament to the supremacy of British television.

    Mr Sloane

    Good call.

I have already ordered a quatermass trilogy of films on dvd.

I chose to buy first man in space on VHS, as the dvd price was frankly ridiculous on amazon (well over 100)
