I wish the TCM channel in the UK was half as good as the TCM channel in the USA. It's been donkeys years since Deep End was last shown on british TV

In 1998, the BBC told me that DEEP END had been shown once on television:

    BBC2, 22nd May, 1977.

I made that point in another 'Deep End' thread in 2008 - and never expected

TCM USA to show the film before a UK channel.

Perhaps TCM USA will now make enquiries about ROADS TO FREEDOM.....

I seriously wonder whether the people in charge of TV channels/stations have any ideas as the kind of films the General Public would like seen on TV. They should join Britmovie and then they might begin to have a better understanding and a real appreciation of films.

I don't understand why it is that some films have never been shown since year dot and yet some films are constantly recycled year in year out.

I know that TCM UK have changed their rota of films some time back and I commend them for showing films like The Rise & Rise of Michael Rimmer (1970) as this hadn't been shown on TV since I last saw it on Channel 4 back in the 1980's. I'm hoping that their is a slim chance that TCM UK may screen Deep End at some point in the future or pigs might fly!!!

Not perfect, but at least it's there (and so is A Thousand Clowns!):[ame="http://youtube.com/watch?v=xb4zMypfawg"]YouTube- DEEP END PT 1 1971[/ame]

Trivia: John Moulder-Brown is the child who pushes the toy car towards Laurence Harvey near the end of Room at the Top.

Watched Deep End (via an ancient VHS recording) a few weeks ago and it's still a powerful film. Jane Asher never looked lovelier and the ending is genuinely disturbing.

So that was when I first saw it. Seem to recall it was a Sunday.

I have A THOUSAND CLOWNS on laserdisc, so if you're in need of a good quality copy on DVD-R, drop me a line.

'Deep End' is due for a release on DVD in 2010, digitally enhanced and in HD. This movie has never previously been on DVD. A company called Bavaria Media is processing this release from the original print. It is to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the movie - it was made in 1970 but not released until 1971.

UK release of this on DVD (and possible Blu-Ray - I can't remember) is from the BFI. AFAIK it's still on for early 2011.
