I have to say that I am not upset about this. But of course I assume he will just be moving to ITV or CH4?
BBC news have announced he is leaving.
'Jonathan Ross has announced he is leaving the BBC, after 13 years working for the corporation.
The controversial presenter, who is one of the BBC's highest paid stars, hosted his own Friday night chat show, Radio 2 show and a film review programme.
In 2008, he was suspended after making a series of phone calls to actor Andrew Sachs on Russell Brand's Radio 2 show.'

With the money he has earned over the years he could set up his own production company and work on his own projects.
The actor Jimmy Mulville did that with 'Hat Trick Productions

i'd be happy with that as i don't really watch ITV or CH4!
about time the money grabbing leach.![]()
Great news, now if only they would get Mark Cousins to host Film 2010 I would start watching it again. I loved his series of interviews with such diverse personalities as Sean Connery, Janet Leigh, Kirk Douglas, Lauren Bacall, Jeff Bridges and Jane Russell. He is so passionate about film, and a real character, he just seems to have disappeared.
So the BBC licence fee can now be reduced by 50 % !
Or will his replacement (the Irish chap) cost us even more?

I believe he already has his own production company and that it was responsible for the dire Big Fat Quiz Of The Year (aka The Ross/Brand Ego Trip Of The Year) that was on last week.

Couldn't agree more, he really could get the best out of his interviewees and wasn't afraid to ask awkward questions. I don't mind Ross on the Film programme but MC would have been better.
Bring back Cousins![]()
I can't help but like Ross, though I admit much of that is residual affection for the long-gone Last Resort/Incredibly Strange Film Show days. He's been doing the same stuff for too long now and needs a change - his talk show has become quite dull.
When his schtick was fresh and new he really was good.

The company is called Hot Sauce and produces most of his work.

That's the problem I have with him ... he just does the same old tired gags over and over again. I actually met him years ago at a literary 'do' at Foyles and he seemed like a fairly decent bloke.![]()

Unlike Mulville, I ca't see Ross disappearing from the screen though - and, as he says this is not financially motivated, I can only assume he has something else already lined up elsewhere. Despite their standing by their man in public, I suspect the BBC were putting pressure on him to change his ways, which he clearly has no intention of doing.
Maybe they will offer the Film programme to Matthew Sweet ?
I liked Jonathan Ross 20 years ago when he had something to say and a "new" style for the period. But I think he has outworn his welcome. In fact he's much like his buddy Lenny Henry in that he has not updated himself and moved with the times.
In some ways he's like a fading cabaret magician, comedian or working club singer. He has his act so honed and polished that he cannot see he's stuck in a rut. There are people of his generation from the same alternative comic / new wave school who have constantly re-invented themselves to move with the times. In years gone by professional entertainers could build a life-long career doing the same act over and over again, but times have changed and I tink Jonathan Ross will need to do something quite different to avoid dropping off our radar - think Richard and Judy!!
name='Mr Pastry Time']Let’s hope he goes to Siberia
It feels like Siberia in the UK at the momentbut I know what you mean. For me it's no great loss where he goes. I'm hoping that the BBC can now put his salary to better use, How about back in the pockets of the TV licence payers for the 13years he was with the BBC

Good. There is a G....well never mind just good.
Goodbye you coarse, talentless t*sser - may this be the last time we ever see your unbearable grinning face or hear your relentless, wearisome voice.
He also has Channel X and a few other production companies.name='batman']I believe he already has his own production company and that it was responsible for the dire Big Fat Quiz Of The Year (aka The Ross/Brand Ego Trip Of The Year) that was on last week.
These often produce the shows he appears on, so he gets paid twice over.
It's a trick used by a few other people, like Simon Cowell as well
