Thanks bruiser, Breaking the Code was an excellent piece of work. I will sort out the next game in the merest hints of time.

Sorry Barbara it's a different Bill!

He was an aviator during WW1 & went on to achieve great success in an altogether different area.

Let me check. I saw the pic and I'll bet it was mislabeled. Back in a flash. Egad. It's William Wellman, the director of The story of GI Joe! That's why his early pic was there.

Yep "Wild Bill" Wellman. Played in "Lafayette Escadrille" (a film he directed) by his son William jr!

Quite interesting learning about Wellman's other "career." I've noticed that actors and directors will also be fliers. Perhaps because they have the money or they like thrills. Or maybe I'm just all wrong.

Feel free anyone. I had one but I checked and I've posted it before. What's the fun in that!

    Cheers,

    Barbara

This lady was the subject of a highly fictionalised biopic played by a massive star of the day.

No she was American but not played by one, she was a social reformer.

I am going out to get the last few bits for my Christmas Cakes so one last clue ( and please continue if you are correct)

She is from Wisconsin but her fame and reforming took place in Texas and the actress playing her was Oscar nominated ( all I can say having watched pic yesterday it must have been a quiet year).

It is Barbara played by Greer as a grand lady who seemed to have been brought up in Ruritania.
