Well done. She is indeed the admirable Amy Johnson whose daring exploits in the 30s amazed as well as her joining the RAF at the start of WW2. She was portrayed in They Flew Alone. Quite a thrilling woman.

    Carry on,

    Barbara

I saw a documentary on women ferry pilots in WW2 recently and apparently they had a fatality rate of one in ten making it just as dangerous as most service jobs done by men

Shortly going out for the day so please carry on anyone

This is probably way too easy, but who is this rather bad tempered woman who was rumoured to be the prototype for the lead in a very successful film a few years back?

Anna Wintour, the inspiration behind Miranda Priestly played by Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada?

Yes, indeed, I was expecting Moon or Barbara to get that in a flash.

Here she is with her cohort the other British fashion maven:

Grace Coddington, taken from their great documentary The September Issue which even if you are not into fashion, is a fascinating film.

    Thanks vaggmk.

I think this one is probably quite easy but maybe not.

I don't think so although there is some truth in that.

    Hi, Vaggmk,

I would have gotten Anna! But I was logged off dealing with my real life which is always interfering with my having fun. Thanks for the good thoughts.

    Best,

    Barbara

    Is English his first language?

Thanks, Roger. There really is a mad method to my questions.

Yes, English was his first language but not his nationality.

It would be best to have a rethink about that.

Well done jaycad it's Richard Loeb of Leopold and Loeb infamy. There have been a number of movies based on their crimes, probably the best known is Compulsion where they were portrayed by Dean Stockwell and Bradford Dillman.

Well, either you've tracked Bruiser down to his mountain lair or that's Gavin Maxwell (whose private life doesn't actually seem very suitable for a kid's film )
