    Hi again everyone.

I am looking to find the title of a film, which dates from the seventies I think.

Basically it was a Dracula type scenario, with the above two actors in. The main action in the story takes place in a secluded detached house.

I think that Michael Caine comes into the plot under false pretences, and then reveals who he really is as the plot progresses.

On the other hand, just the very name of the two above actors, was probably all this is needed for those of you who saw it, and have a good memory.

I always find it amazing how Julie Peasgood still looks roughly the same age now, as she did in the seventies.

The only film I can find with Julie and Michael Caine is The Romantic Englishwoman but the plot is totally different.

I reckon it's 'cos she lives here in Norfolk! All that Eastern air does wonders for the ol' body.

ps - the film could be The House of Long Shadows. Michael Caine isn't in it but Julie Peasgood is.

Ok, so my initial memories could be well off the mark.

How about: similar house to above, still Michael C, no JP, and Michael C plays a police inspector?

I know it's a long shot, but I would only have been about seven at the time, and it would have 4 hours after my bedtime.

either way, it was a hammer type film from memory

I think you may be mixing the two films suggested into one.

In House of the Long Shadows there is an old dark house, Julie Peasgood and a character who reveals himself to be someone else (not Michael Caine though!).

In Sleuth there is Michael Caine in disguise.

The plot description sounds like House of the Long Shadows, which does feature a Dracula type scenario, inlcuding a well known actor who has played Dracula turning out not to be who he claimed, and also Julie Peasgood. But Michael Caine isn't in it.

Without wishing to spoil Sleuth too much for those who haven't seen it, he's not actually disguised as a woman though...

Perhaps you nodded off during House of the Long Shadows and woke up during Sleuth!?

    Maurice isn't a detective, though.

Your link doesn't work, Hugh. I've noticed, while replying-with-quote, that the right bracket is placed after the URL. Let's see if it works now:

The Magus (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Success! You could be right about this being the film.

The Magus is a pretentious, horrible movie. I doubt anyone who sat through that would ever want to watch it again.

It's a valiant attempt, but it fails. However, the novel, by John Fowles, is my favourite work of British literature of all time. If you read it, you'll see clearly why it could nevr be filmed successfully....
