Country tracks have just done a piece on the location of `whistle down the wind` in Lancashire. It has interviews with Hayley Mills and the other children who starred in it. They have filmed the barn as it is now (hasn`t changed) and goes through the story of how it was brought together by Attenborough and Brian Forbes etc.

Its just been on now (Sunday 7th) but no doubt it will be on BBC iplayer for those who want to see it

It will be on iPlayer soon but it's not there yet.

BBC - BBC One Programmes - Country Tracks, Ribble Valley

They are still showing last week's episode

BTW this will be shown again on Thursday, 02:45 on BBC1 (probably with signing)

I saw Country tracks today by chance, again it looks like Alan Barnes didn't want to take part, but many of the other children as were did, Hayley Mills looked a little lost for words when talking about it, it was interesting to see 'then and now', the actual barn looks in a sorry state.

Yeah, but its still standing which is an achievement lol.

I think Hayley and Brian Forbes both seemed pretty sad that children these days don`t have the childhoods like they did back then. They have a good point, I do feel kids miss out on being naive for longer and the the freedom to roam about and explore like they used to. It makes me sad.

Is it the same thing they did with Ben Fogey about 5 years ago? A great series on movie locations...including Far From The Madding Crowd...The Dambusters and many others...a great DVD release if they could be bothered.

    Film Man.

I'd like to see again the one about the 1973 film of Swallows and Amazons...although they could only find two of the former six child actors in it, two of the girls if I remember correctly. So the fate of Simon West and Stephen Grendon are unknown. Perhaps they'll run it again if they do a Country Tracks programme about the Lake District.
