A bit of a long shot but does anyone know who owns the rights to Lindsay Shonteffs 1969 film Night, After Night, After Night.

The film is being considered for a big screen showing at a repertory cinema in Bristol, but in order for this to happen we need to track down a print of the film, and (ideally) get the current rights holders permission.

Have you tried this site? I think his son operates it.

Shonteff was only a director for hire on the film, so its unlikely to be owned by his estate. Which is just as well given that his relatives are apparently at loggerheads over who owns the rights to the films he made independently.

It was originally distributed by Butchers Films, whose early catalogue now seems to be owned by Renown, but Im not so sure if Renown will also have the rights to the later films. I have asked the chap who wants to screen the film to drop Renown an email, just on the off-chance that they do.

Shonteff had his name taken off the credits of the film as well so it is doubly unlikely that his estate have the rights to it.

Have you tried asking Marc Morris (he's a member on this site and runs the Cult Movies site and is also involved with Nucleus)? Marc seems to know everything about this kind of thing.

There was a 16mm print sold on Ebay a few months ago.

The BBC bought the Butcher's rights/catalogue around 1970, in fact NNN was probably one of the last films made before it went bust. However NNN may have a seperate issues with Butcher's rights?

James Mellor one of the producers died in 76 (possible suicide) and the other producer was thought to have died in Singapore.

The writer Dail Ambler (wrote BeatGirl) may still be around ?

The three of them originally got together for a small film about the OX/Cam Boat Race in 1959 if II recall correctly which won an amateur prize at Cannes.

There is a pirate DVD going around in the States i think

I recently watched a 16mm print of this which has a card on the front saying PETER WALKER PRESENTS so he had the title at one time and may have a clue as to the rights now/

I think it was originally released through Butchers- so Renown might have a copy (for a future DVD release ?)

It was released on pre-cert video in the early 1980s by Monterey (if that's any help). This suggests that the BBC didn't have the video rights.

There is also a version with hard core inserts and alternate, more explicit sex scenes that was released on video by Video for Pleasure in the Netherlands
