British film/tv film about a young girl in high society who sleeps with an older gentleman on the advice of her older friend (who is also having an affair with this gentleman). Shes is then married off my her mother to a wealthy man in his 40s or 50s for money but she continues to have many affairs. Another scene I remember is that the girls older friend is in a bathtub with the gentleman (who stormed into the room shouting about something). She has a letter which she passes to him through the bathwater destroying the ink and rendering the letter useless. The letter had something to do with him proving his innocence about something or a will to an estate. The girls older friend was in her late 20s and the girl was 15 at the time of her first affair, I think and the im sure the gentleman is in the army.

Not Moll flanders however im almost sure that the film was named after the lead female character. It was made within the last 20 eyars, im thinking late 90s, early 00's

Its not on the list although it is a good list but missing a few films The Bounty, To Kill a King for example. "Emma" almost sounds like what Im looking for but the cast doesn't ring any bells. I keep thinking Amanda Donohoe played the older girl but its not her accodring to imdb, it is a British actress similar to her however.
I just remembered a scene in which the young girls mother is talking about marriage andthe young reponds with "I should like to have two sweethearts one for money and one for pleasure" to which her mother laughs and says she can only have one. The young girl also makes reference to her older friend who has both.

The idea of the older woman trying to get a teenager to sleep with her own beloved is roughly the plot of Les Liaisons Dangereuses though the younger man is actually a music teacher. Could it be that - there have been lots of versions?
Thanks for the suggestion which put me on the right track, it appears to be Valmont of 1988 im almost 100% certain.
Valmont is on jaycads list, sorry mate didnt see that one!
