Hell Is a City (1960)? Not newspaper but green ink from handling pound notes I think.
It was made in black & white in the 50's or 60's. Ii was abour a robbery or murder (or both). And the story was about how the detective in charge of the case tracked down the criminal through his discarded newspaper in a car. Started in London but the paper was printed up north, Manchester. Eventually through trackingthis paper through its area of print and things written on the paper was the crook caught. Not sure but the main star could be Jack Warner
I love films British films of this nature, so would like the title to see if it's on DVD.

Sounds like The Long Arm with Jack Hawkins.

name='batman']Sounds like The Long Arm with Jack Hawkins.
Definitely "The Long Arm"
- it turned out to be a Welsh edition newspaper delivered to "The Grange" (which turned out to be The Garage) - with an interesting little sidelight into how these newspapers keep (or kept) track of which edition was which.
Thanks batman, the piture gave the answer, also realised that it was Hawkins and not warner![]()
Thanks for raising this one to my attention Mr Chips / Batman, I have managed to purloin a copy and will be viewing it at the weekend for the first time!
I don't want to disappoint people but it's one of the few films where it's morally acceptable to get a bootleg rather than the legit release which is awful - good picture quality but the sound completely disappears for quite long sequences. Shame on you, Optimum![]()

This lots - I was very disappointed.![]()
Is it for sure there are bootleg copies that are superior to the official release? That would be unusual.
I have this on VHS and also on DVD and can confirm that the Optimum release is terrible so when viewing guess which one comes out.
Thanks for the warning, I was considering buying a copy as it really is great British crime film, but now I wil have to think about it first!
I have to agree about the Optimum dvd. I have actually junked it and put the bootleg I already had inside the case.
Wow ! this is shocking as has been said previously thank goodness for my perfectly acceptable non-comerrcial copy.
