Early 80's - Girl in France

It's driving me crazy, can anyone help? Possibly an early Channel Four production follows an English girl in France, could be an exchange student. There's a bit of train travel. I think there's a romantic/coming of age theme. Can't remember much else, but it definitely finishes with a triumphant freeze-frame and a Edith Piaff serenade.
