    Hi everyone,

I'm trying to track down a movie I saw featured in the 'Hollywood UK' documentary series shown in 1993 on BBC2 and again in 2006 on BBC4 (which I missed).

It wasn't featured for long; a clip was shown to illustrate someone's point about the film i.e. it was one of the last of the 60s to feature major investment from the USA.

I think the film was called 'Jason', though any internet search using that gives me tons of info on the Friday the 13th films (yay). The film must have been made and released in the 67-69 period.

If anyone is familiar with the film or with the TV series I mentioned and can shed any light on this, I'd be grateful; it's getting to the stage where I think I imagined the whole thing or have just got the name completely wrong.

Love this site. Could spend hours on it.

    Thanks in advance.

Could it be Jason and the Argonauts (1963)?

The cast and crew are mostly British, but the producers are Americans.

Any clues? Perhaps a description of the imagery from the clip?

Thanks for the swift replies chaps.

It's not Jason and the Argonauts. Too early in the decade for that. Defo a late 60s movie.

Looked like it was set in 'Swinging London' or a US imagining of what that was.

As a result it was crammed full of models pretending to be office workers, at least that's what the chap being interviewed on the documentary said. Could've been a spy type movie. As I saw the doc 17 years ago, it's all a bit hazy now. It'd be nice to work out what movie it was, and they definitely weren't talking about the Jason King TV show either.

Richard Lester was narrator on the Hollywood UK series.

Hopefully they'll repeat it and I can find out what the movie was.

    Ta.

Just had a look at the series and I think the film must be Sebastian, which has been discussed recently on Britmovie.

When Hollywood UK was shown in 2005, they cut about 12 minutes from each episode. Not sure if this was to accommodate more adverts or if permissions for some clips could not be obtained.

I have the complete 1993 series. Send me a PM if you'd like a copy.

If it was Sebastian, the "models pretending to be office workers" were actually very clever (and generally quite pretty) young ladies who were decoding messages - either sent by enemy agents or by our own agents when they got the coding wrong so they couldn't be decoded by normal methods.

They are based on the team that Leo Marks put together during the war who managed to decode a lot of our agents - which meant that they didn't have to send them again which was a very risky thing to do

Though I doubt the war-time codebreakers wore mini-skirts

We'll never know, they all signed the official secrets act

But Leo carried on with similar work after the war and there's no reason to believe that he wouldn't have carried on working with teams of clever young women, and young women tend to follow fashion

    Thank you! Mystery solved!

Having checked out the 2 clips I can find on Youtube, and the suggested forum discussion, I think Sebastien is indeed the film.

So....not Jason then. Who knows where I got that from. Answers on a postcard please.

Sincere thanks for the help and posts as I've wondered what that film was for ages.

Perhaps you could all turn your mystery solving skills to other matters...UFOs, Bermuda Triangle, Lord Lucan.....just a thought.

    All the best.
