    The Pope Must Die

Wouldn't it be a good idea to re-issue this movie in the UK ?

Having the film posters all over the London underground during the visit of His Holiness would be nicely provocative.......

No. I think we should all just ignore him. Especially here in Coventry. Send him to Coventry, literally and idiomatically.

Wouldn't it be great if the British people just turned their backs like it was a non-event?

They won't unfortunately - the "faithful" will crawl on their knees as usual. The press and politicians will lionise him.

I'm going to try to be away on holiday.

Not sure which would be the greater offence to decency: the Pope's visit, or re-issuing that awful, awful movie.

Renamed The Pope Must Diet in the USA, so as not to offend anyone. Or is that an anti-American myth?

Sadly not a myth, just a piece of silliness.

From the IMDb Trivia page about the film:

After much outcry from Roman Catholics, the film's US title was changed by the addition of a single letter. The new title, "The Pope Must Diet", was marked on some promotional material with the final letter "T" in the form of a crucifix.

Never heard of it and based on this trailer, I don't think it was in American theaters too long.

Great clip! It makes it look funny!

Notice how he trails off and doesn't quite say "The Pope Must Diet" ... and what kind of trailer talks about "The strong comedic talents of ..." in a comedy? That's a bit damning with faint praise isn't it?

I don't think it was in any theatres too long. Not because people objected to the subject as such, just that it wasn't funny
