    In no particular order....

    Sympathy for the Devil

    Paint it Black

    Undercover of the Night

    Ruby Tuesday.

You Can't Always Get What You Want

All cracking tunes! UotN is there because I love the video and it's one of a few of their 'more recent' hits that proved they were still capable of putting together a great song.

Nah. It just means you have to be a bit selective with five.

Does anyone remember 'Battle of the Giants' - on Radio Luxembourg in about 1964 ?

In the weekly programme, two pop groups or soloists "competed" to get through to the next round.

The DJ played 5 or 6 hits from each competitor. Were there votes by phone in those days? I'm not sure how each week's winner was chosen.

It would be interesting to know which Stones tracks were played in 'The Final' against the Beatles.

I seem to remember the Beatles "won".

Not being a huge Stones fan, I recall that when I bought a best of album many many years ago, I was puzzled that they included a cover of Melanie's old hit record............

I was always rather fond of 19th Nervous Breakdown, even as a kid....

I almost had a nervous breakdown once when Leslie Crowther and Peter Glaze did a cover version of "Get off My Cloud" during Crackerjack, on some bizzarree trippy Friday night in the Sixties - some time after 5-o-clock.......

Mick Jagger and David Bowie doing a cover of Dancing in the Street is another favourite, but perhaps I'm straying off topic now..........

    1. Paint It Black - Darkly catchy and compelling

    2. Satisfaction - THAT guitar riff, their signature tune

    3. Gimme Shelter - The creepy vocal harmonies, "different"

    4. 19th Nervous Breakdown - I like the lyrics

5=. The Last Time and Get Off Of My Cloud - I can never choose between them, both classic mid sixties Stones, the first sneering, the second ballsy

I think all of the above are great, there are a handful more I rather like, after that I'm not impressed one way or the other by the bulk of their catalogue, never understood all the fuss about 'em meself tbh.

I would have said Ruby Tuesday if I could have had Melanie's version - but if I'm restricted to originals:

    Jumpin Jack Flash

    Brown Sugar

    Playing With Fire

    Sympathy For The Devil

    Satisfaction

Because they all give a good showcase to Jagger and they're all great to dance to!

You should have seen how miffed some of my soul music-loving friends were when they found out that their 'secret sound' (which turned out to be Wayne Gibson singing Under My Thumb), was written and performed by the Stones.

It was on their LP Aftermath, and there's acracking 'live' version recorded in the Royal Albert Hall in the 1960s.
