This must be one of the most asked about films on this thread. Great film, was it the last filmed at Ealing? It also goes by another title The Third Key. Easy to get hold of on DVD in the UK as The Long Arm.

I have heard that the Optimum Region 2 DVD of The Long Arm has appalling sound quality, with the sound level so low that you can hardly hear it even with your sound volume up full. Lots of complaints about it, but as far as I know, nothing has been done about it.

I think someone on the forum said that Optimum were going to remaster the soundtrack, and that 'new' versions would be out later this year.

That's a surprise, however, I think I watched a film recently which had a similar plotline .... I can't remember what it was though.

Can you give any more information - what distinguishes it from The Long Arm for example?

Could it be A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square (1979) where the thief is not a safemaker but a maintenance man in the bank.
