I have dim memories of this from my 1980s childhood ...

A dining room, with a view out onto a garden. A family gathering. Kids light fireworks under the dinner table and the house burns down.

    Kids telly, I think. Early-to-mid 80s.

    Can anyone shed any light?!

The house doesn't burn down but the fireworks being lit in the living room is the reason why a new rug is needed in The Phoenix and the Carpet

Hmmm ... if this "The Phoenix and the Carpet" (1976) received an early 80s repeat, it could be just the thing!

It terrified and upset me when I was very little, and it's always been at the back of my mind.

    Thanks!
