It has - on satelite and cable only. I loved the first series of 90 minute thrillers - moody, full of period detail and very well acted. then the rather dumbed down 45 minute series came along with a new cast. Stopped watching it.
Popular series, here in Canada. Has this series been released to tv in the UK?

I liked Canada's Da Vinci Inquest. The star, whatever his name was, was brilliant. But apparently, they never finished the last story arc, then moved on to a short lived series where Da Vinci became mayor.
I rented it from Netflix here in the US. I really wanted to like it, but the acting was not great and I just hate that sort of "home movie"method of jarring camera work. The worst thing of all was the frequent, loud, unpleasant sound (couldn't be considered music really) made as one is jerked from one scene to another, which gave the whole thing a contrived and rushed feel. Just not my cup of tea. On the other hand, I considered it better than most American television.

Nicholas Campbell, really really good actor, and a very nice gentleman in real life.
The last story arc was finished, on television in Canada (at least I feel it was, and I've watched the series more than a few times), but the entire series has unfortunately never been released on DVD.
The followup series is called "Da Vinci's City Hall", and there was also a made for TV movie called "The Quality of Life" also when he is mayor.
The character is based on a real life Vancouver coroner who also eventually became mayor.
I think it is one of the best things ever done on television, I loved it so much I recorded all the episodes to DVD, just in case it was never released.

It shows here on a cable/sdatellite channel called Alibi, whose parent company, UKTV, are one of Murdoch Mysteries co-financiers.

I agree, I thought the first filming of these stories with Peter Outerbridge (2004) was much better than the second go round with Yannick Bisson (2008).
We have had 3 series of Murdoch in the UK - good stuff, I would like to see more Canadian TV shown over here rather then the US series which seemed to obsessed with violence!

Keep your eyes open for a new series that premiered this season in Canada called "The Republic of Doyle". It's about a father and son detective agency set in Newfoundland. And they've managed to get a lot of the really good Canadian actors to do at least one guest shot, snagged Nicholas Campbell of the above mentioned Da Vinci's Inquest for 4 episodes.
Now kicking myself that I didn't archive the first 3 episodes- the rest are trapped on my PVR waiting to be burned to DVD. Hopefully they will rerun the series at some point so that I can remedy that error.

Thanks, I'll look out for that , here's hoping it gets to the UK. The last time I spoke to my niece, who lives in Montreal, she mentioned a comedy series about a small town in the wilds, I'm pretty sure it had gas in the title. Any idea?

"Corner Gas"
very funny show - all 6 seasons have been released on R1 DVD - set in a little town in the middle of nowhere on the prairies that consists of a gas station and not much else.

Corner Gas has been shown here for quite a while. It's on at some odd times
though recently (5.30pm on a weekday) but it's very funny indeed & has some
great characters in it.![]()
Murdoch Mysteries is OK but I don't know why it is set in period (Victorian?) and then has modern dialogue and attitudes - a female police doctor? It just jars on me a bit.
Fans of the show should know that the new, 4th, series starts next Tuesday, 15th February at 9 in the evening on Alibi.
I only mention this as it's very easy to miss in the Radio Times which doesn't give it any kind of fanfare. Similar to the way new series of Monk are slipped into the schedule as though no one's really interested.....
