So Mrs Douglas has been given a CBE. Have I missed something ?, Why?, Was it for services to the elderly ?

I too am wondering why. I dunno what charity work etc she does away from acting so that may be part of it, but as British actresses go surely there must be a lot who would be entitled to this and I would never see her as a major influence here, she has done more in U.S.A as far as I know

Catherine is an Oscar winning actress, at present the toast of Broadway and involved in multiple charities if you believe in such things I thinks she is deserving as any.

But.....That all has to do with the U.S.A surely? So why a C.B.E for her services?

Are you sure that CBE is not short for CBeebies, in that her SKY has been sorted and she is soon to receive CBeebies.

I am glad to see this thread about Catherine Zeta Jones. Not because of this controversy, which I have no interest in whatsoever, but because when I posted pictures of her in The Sexiest Actress thread, I loaded up more pictures on Photobucket than I used. Now that she has an entire thread to herself I can post more pictures. But not now because I am going to bed.

It is Jim, I can take or leave Catherine ZJ, I've only really seen her in Chicago, I couldn't seem to get into 'Darling-buds', they were forever eating and got bored with it after a few episodes, probably coz I had initial high expectations about a quaint 50's England portrayal.

Corrie's Emily and Rita have also been awarded CBE's, good for them.

For those who are no longer British citizens, these awards are only 'honorary' anyway - the same as Bob Geldof who is still an Irish citizen.

Not sure about Michael Gambon who was born in Dublin - does anybody else know?

The Americans seem to love British women and, of course, marrying into a Hollywood 'dynasty' didn't do Zeta Jones any harm! Rumour has it that she won her Oscar because her husband 'called in a few favours'.

I don't think that she would have had the same success if she had stayed in the UK.

I've never been totally sure why Coronary was knighted either - he left the country to avoid paying taxes, so he's not exactly a loyal British citizen! He only ever seems to pop over here just before an election to tell everybody how to vote.

Speaking of Brits abroad what a shame Glynis Johns (another long-tme U.S resident) has missed out in the Honours List again, but at least Barbara Knox and Eileen Derbyshire have been honoured - and the wonderful Anne Reid (why wasnt it an OBE for her?). I was also pleased that Vicki Michelle's charity work was recognised with an MBE - a lovely lady and well deserved

You all got there before me!

I was completely gobsmacked to see that she had not only been honoured but with a CBE, for heaven's sake! Mr Sloane has, I suppose, partially explained the reasoning but the CBE is the gong just one notch from a knighthood or being made a Dame. It's when I see that Anne Reid got an MBE and John Nettles an OBE I query the CBE for CZJ.

I was under the impression that she was regarded as a decent(ish) enough Hollywood actress but not in the first rank but, as Mr Sloane points out, perhaps I'm wrong.

I was always fancied Abigail Rokison more in TDBOM, anyway!

She won a supporting Oscar, Cully, and deservedly so because she was sensational in Chicago, better than the star who won an Oscar earlier. If she is second rank, she's at the top of that list.
