It sounds similar to Race With the Devil but that didn't feature Burt Reynolds and the pursuers were cult members not KKK.

Sounds like Race with the Devil. It features Peter Fonda.

Sounds like "Race with the Devil" to me as well, however, there is a lesser known TV movie starring Peter Graves called "Where Have All The People Gone" a post apocalyptic type film about a plague wiping out most of humanity and P. Graves and family are terrorized by a hoodlums as they drive in their camper to find a safe haven to live.

Race With the Devil sounds like the right answer here.

Robin Williams comedy RV was also horrific

Why does the camper van seem to fit so well into the horror genre? Classic examples such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Evil Dead sit alongside more recent examples such as Cabin Fever.

Kids.... If you go down in the woods today, take a bus. You're much more likely to return with all your limbs still attached!

And don't forget Scooby Doo, Where Are You! and their mystery machine.

They're always straying into horror situations
