Does anyone know what became of actress Josephine Griffin after 1956 when she appeared in The Man Who Never Was and The Spanish Gardener. She was still in her 20s when she retired from the screen.

Sorry I can't help, James. Is this her? With Dirk Bogarde of course in The Spanish Gardener:

Miss Griffin also appears in this incredible photograph by Norman Parkinson (top right, dangling!):

'The Young Look in the Theatre', 1953

L-R: Hazel Penwarden, Virginia Anne McKenna, Zena Walker, Yvonne Furneaux, Elizabeth Henson (up),

Jill Bennett, Mr. Parkinson, Patricia McCarron (up), Patricia Owens, Josephine Griffin and Ruth Trouncer.

Some actresses are better known to me than others (hence the links). I didn't know Zena Walker was around then.

This must be around the time of Jill Bennett's affair with the much older Godfrey Tearle (the man with the missing finger in The 39 Steps).

    Hi James

I haven't managed to find out what happened to her, but I thought I would share the couple of images I have of her in my collection, in Ronald Neame's 1956 film 'The Man Who Never Was'.

as Pam with Clifton Webb, Gloria Grahame and Robert Flemyng

The actress in the photo with Dirk is Maureen Swanson who ended up by marrying Lord Dudley.

    Hi

She married Patrick Filmer-Sankey who was a film producer (SOS Pacific among others) and gave up acting. She had one son and died a couple of years ago. I think she wrote a couple of non film books but was never tempted back on the stage.

Imdb need to update her biography, they don't mention that she has died.

The IMDb rarely adds any information themselves. They give us the facilities so that we can add information. The vast majority of the information on there has been added by film fans, like us.

If you want Josephine Griffin's date of death recorded on the IMDb then you should add it yourself. Give them a reference to an obituary or other notice in a newspaper

I had no idea that she had died until I read it on this thread. I Googled her name but there is no mention of if and when she died.

Thank you for correcting me, Ray

Definitely Josephine Griffin this time, with Stephen Boyd, again in The Man Who Never Was:

It seems that Josephine died on 15th Sept. 2005. I am trying to verify the source.

    From another website:

Josephine Filmer-Sankey (nee Griffin), died 15 September, 2005, aged

    76. Mother of William and mother-in-law of Caroline, and grandmother of

Frances and Ben. Funeral Mass at St Joseph's Church, Highgate, London

    N19, 26 September, 2005.

Source: The Times 20 September, 2005

The same website suggests that she is buried at Bruera in Cheshire.
