I'm looking for the title of a very old film featuring two or more Knights.

I saw this film in the early 70's but I think it was made in the 30's or 40's or even the 50's.

What I remember about the film is it revolves around two knights talking on the eve of a battle. The conversation takes place at night either on the battlefield or in a grave yard. My lasting memory of the film is at the end you see knights on horseback rise up from the fog to fight the final battle and just before they close their visors the camera pans round to reveal that the knights have no face.

It's a knights in purgatory type of film.

This film was black and white and in English but for some reason I think it might be a French made film.

The film was very eery and atmospheric and seemed to be filmed in one location with constant fog.

The only possible title I've found on here is "Pass to Arms" but there is so little information about this film that I can not confirm it.

    This Film is definitely NOT...

    The Seventh Seal

    Alexander Nevisky

    The Tower

    The WarLord

Tomb of the Blind Dead series

    Red Cliff

    Hawk the Slayer

A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court

    El Cid

    Decameron Nights

    Joan of Arc

    Lancelot of the Lake

    Prince Valiant

    Sword of Lancelot (1963)

    Sword of Sherwood Forest (1960)

    Sword of the Conqueror (1961)

    Ivan The Terrible

    The Black Arrow (1948)

    The Black Knight (1954)

    The Black Rose (1950)

The Black Shield of Falworth (1954)

    The Crusades (1935)

The Flame and the Arrow (1950)

The Knights of the Round Table (1953)

    The Lion in Winter (1968)

The Masque of the Red Death (1964)

    The Raven (1963)

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

    The Prince of Thieves (1948)

Gawain and the Green Knight (1973, UK)

    Lancelot and Guinevere (1963)

I've been searching for the title of this film for 30 years so any help would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn't ring any bells, but from your description it sounds quite a gem.

Is the previous mention of Pass to/of Arms on this site this one?

If so then it might be worth you asking Penfold or any of the other posters of that thread if they've had any luck with any new information.

This site Sandy Denny Pass of Arms

seems to confirm that Sandy Denny performed on the soundtrack of Pass of Arms,

and can be heard here Youtube Sandy Denny-Here in silence

Maybe that may help jog a few memories

I don't know if this will be any help at all to you. or Penfold who asked about the whereabouts of Elford or Frazer, but both IMDB and suggest that Stephen Goldblatt who moved on to some pretty big things worked on the film, and maybe as the film is such a rarity, he could provide some information which may lead to a copy.

    Good luck with your search.

this is NOT it, this is Alan Caillou in Woody Allen's

Everything You Wanted to Know about Sex

    but the "look" is right.

I vaguely remember the show you are talking about, it was very stage bound and foggy I remember it in shades of Brown and it seemed to me to be in English but that sort of dubbed ADR sound, too clear, if you see what I mean. I wonder if Woody was parodying it. My guess would be late 60s.
