I was pleasantly surprised to see this TV series by Al Read being given a DVD release. I am a big fan of his classic BBC radio series, the best of which are available on BBC cassettes (why no CD editions?). However, from what I have heard Al Read's comedy was much stronger in the radio format and less likely to transfer well to TV. I think his TV work was on ITV. This is apparently from a series called It's All In Life. Does anyone know much about this?

I remember seeing it at the time - quite funny as I recall although, as you say, radio was his real forte. Some radio comedies like Take It From Here never did really transfer successfully (did they ever attempt it with The Navy Lark ?) while others did (Hancock's Half Hour).

There seemed to be a definite divide in the 50s and 60s between radio and tv (although, paradoxically, there were popular radio versions of tv shows like Steptoe and Son and Dad's Army).
