    Delightful news.

Along with David Gill and especially Carl Davis, Kevin Brownlow has been largely responsible for the re-awakening of interest in silent film as an art form in the last few decades.

An award that makes undeniable sense, for a change!

Congratulations to Kevin Brownlow for this long overdue and well deserved recognition of his work. He not only rekindled interest in early cinema, thus saving and resurrecting many great films, but he also wrote and directed a couple of very interesting movies of his own - It Happened Here and Winstanley both well worth digging out and viewing.

(I am sorry - I should have said "co-wrote" and "co-directed" as he worked on both films with Andrew Mollo.)

I first became aware of that name due to his authorship of The Parade's Gone By way back in 1968, which contains interviews with many silent pioneers, several of whom had already died when the book was published.

I particularly enjoyed reading his biography of the legendary director David Lean....

Well researched, and packed full of useful information....
