Sounds like a scene from Crash but thats much more recent.
Looking for the name of a film I saw on sky movies back in the early 90's.
Was an american film in which a man and a woman are in their car at night time which breaks down in a kind of bronx area and they get surrounded by a group of thugs. They try and escape down alleyways etc and thats all I can remember.
I do know it started off very very good and gripping but later tailed off a bit as the initial scenes faded.

Something like this happens at the start of Bonfire of the Vanities though I can't remember if Tom Hanks actually leaves the car after the incident.

Thanks Captain sounds like this may be the one. I know it started off very promising indeed but did falter as the story unfolded. I shall try and get hold of a copy to watch and let you know if it's the one.
If anyone else has any other ideas please feel free to post them.

Nope this isn't the film.
It was definitely an american film, the car breaks down in a bronx type area and it is raining. The man and woman in the car get out and do a runner from the mob down alleyways etc. Think the man had a black suit on and maybe a scarf around his neck too. Opened up like a serious action movie and definitely shown on sky movies in the 90's.
Kevin Klein's car breaks down in a rough neigborhood in Grand Canyon, but he doesn't have a woman with him.
Sounds a bit like Final Jeapardy with Richard Thomas and Mary Crosby. The car in this is locked in a car park ,but the gang chasing the characters sounds right.Thomas has been to an interview in an unfamiliar part of the city, arranges to meet wife played by Crosby in a bar,but she lets her taxi go before he can tell her about the car situation and they have to get home avoiding various bad dudes.Made in 1985,so it would be on Sky probably through the 90's.
'falling down' micheal douglas?

As soon as I read the first post I thought FINAL JEOPARDY, a surprisingly intense tv movie. It was first shown on ITV after the extended news in a change of programme the night the Gulf War was declared, I remember it well. I am sure I have it still somewhere.
remember seeing this film in the early 90's possibly but missed the very first minute.
A man and his wife I think are driving through an american rough neighbourhood when their car either breaks down or crashes. Lots of undesireables appear and give chase on foot down alleyways and through buildings etc.
I dont think its Vanity of The Bonfires as some people have suggested.
Anyone have any ideas?
I think that when this was asked before, the answer was "Final Jeopardy" which starred Richard Thomas. It is not available on legitimate DVD, but was on "I-offer"at the time.
Was going to say i thought this was asked about before; thought i was getting deja vu!
Sounds quite good - might try and track a copy down.
Final Jeopardy would be my guess too.
Here's the previous thread - http://filmdope.com/forums/ca...ough-area.html
Thanks fellas, sorry for re-posting and Final Jeopardy sounds like it so a big thank you to all who answered, keep up the great work.
If anyone gets this and would like to trade I'm interested, thanks.
