A simplistic way of looking at it. They don't have the power of a PM and whilst he may get only £100k+ in office, how much does Blair earn for his corporate work... never mind the millions he's giving away from his autobiography. Many MP's are on the board of multinationals or have a string of member interests.

A very interesting programme. I didn't realize Gordon Brown had made such heavy cuts in Govenrment pay already and David Cameron had only tipped the iceburg with what was little more than a mere gesture with cuts .

I was disapointed that Panaroma didn't highlight the fact that since this Government rose to power they have allowed the top bosses to earn no more than 20x the amount of the lowest paid workers, so allowing massive pay increases at the top, despite their apparant best efforts to cut the top earners. It should also be remembered that the lowest paid in the public sector are on low pay.

If we put a cap of say £100,000 in the public sector people would still be queueing up for the jobs so what's the problem?

How bizarre though that the head of the BBC - whose name escapes me for the moment - didn't choose to comment in the programme about his own salary. Unlike the lady who had taken a 25% cut to accept a measly £ 230,000 from the Beeb.
