Several months back, I also created a petition for Anchor Bay to have the uncut print of Saul Bass' Phase IV released. Legend Films' DVD released in 2008 featured the version tampered in post production. Back in 74' when Phase IV was premiered, the climax was a montage of visual and optical effects, showing the next evolutionary stage of mankind. This was in the strain of Kubrick's stargate sequence for 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). For general release, Paramount trimmed 9 minutes from the movie, mainly the climax.

If you want to see a proper special edition, featuring the uncut version, please sign on this link:

    Thank you.

Obviously, this petition will lead to a Blu Ray version as well. We all know that DVD versions of a movie are eventually paired with a Blu Ray version.

I also advertised this petition on Phase IV's IMDB page. If you dudes could spread the word, that would be greatly appreciated.

When Phase IV was premiered, the climax showed two futures for mankind: one was a utopian society of ant-human hybrids, and the other was an apocalyptic Earth with ravaged countries and buildings. It was a light show in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey's climax. For general release, Phase IV was cut by 9 minutes by Paramount Pictures, the theatrical distributor and co-copyright holder of the movie. In an interview, Saul Bass mentioned that Paramount edited the film for general release without his approval.
