I was surpised to discover BBC Sport are not going to renew Clare Balding's contract. To be fair they say they will still use her on a free-lancing basis, but what does that mean regarding her presenting horse racing and rugby league.
I've said often and on this forum Clare is IMO the best sports presenter the BBC has ever had.
she also ridicules winning jockeys teeth in a manner that would make prince phillip cringe!
Yes the way she spoke to that winning jockey was disgusting, she'll still be racking it in as a freelance
Maybe the BBC will use a few male presenters but knowing the BBC they are probably intent on having every sports programme presented by women. Clare Balding, Sue Barker, Hazel Irvine, Gabby Logan etc. There are plenty of male commentators but precious few major sports events on the BBC are actually presented by men.
LOL I always said they wanted superiority, not equality....
Smudge
She should be more careful of the company she keeps.....

I'm sure Clare regrets her remarks toward the jockey. Usually she's so professional
And she deliberately humiliates the jockeys by being at least six inches taller than most of them.
I notice she is co presenting (with Chris Evans), a 'celebs do the funniest things' type program, on Channel 4, on 2nd Jan.
Maybe Clare will end up on Channel 4s Morning Line
Not being sexist as this opinion of mine also applies to males. Her 'presence' is fine for journalism in her field and is professional but in a world class environment of the major BBC channels I believe there are superior presenters and more coming from the sports industry every year as a career progression when the ageing process starts to kick in.
Over exposure comes to mind. Blimey, she was in Canada for the skiing as well!
The Only thing with The Morning Line, she'd have to be part of a rota system of presenters including if their still there Lesley Graham, Alice Plunkett, Emma Spencer and Derek Thompson, while at the BBC she is the main anchor-presenter
I wonder if Clare still does work for The One Show
I'm not interested in sport, but will always watch Clare Balding. She's got such enthusiasm and energy, and is a very winning personality. She hosted my company AGM last year, and I stayed awake for her appearances.
I always got the impression the BBC Management didn't quite know where to place her. I certainly like her enthusiasm and I was impressed with her knowledge of Rugby League, but maybe her annual salary is something that can be easily culled considering she doesn't really have her own niche.
