Here's Roy Castle hosting a programme on the Dobcross Band Club, 1/3, perhaps from the '70s?

He's a bit of a hero of mine mainly through the courage and dignity he showed fighting his illness. Used to send all our old ink cartridges to his charity before we went lazer.
Wonderful allround entertainer. Did The Generation Game once with a Wizard of Oz routine. Always thought he was the natural successor to old Brucie on the GG but was surprized when they went the other way (no pun intended) with Larry Grayson. I think he could have done most things as well if not better (Strickly Come Dancing for one) than Bruce if he had lived longer. Being nearly five years younger than Bruce might have just kept him in his shadow opportunity wise. Not that I would think that bothered or harmed Roy career.
Just saw an LP of Roy's in a charity shop. It was called "Roy Sings John".
That's Roy Castle singing The Gospel According to St John. In a chunky jumper.
Hmm....
I put it down very carefully and backed out of the shop.
A TV Times listing from September 23rd 1965.
Some information about Roy Castle and
also information about the episode of Man
Behind The Star in which Roy appeared,

Yes but Roy had much better hair than Bruce,as for Bruce being a comedian the mind boggles. He couldn't tell an original joke for the life of him,all he is and was is a poor mans version of Sammy Davis Jnr.ie. a very average singer,a middling dancer,a good compere, and a not very good looking man....
I agree with you up to a point, Graeme.
It must be said that Bob Monkhouse was so much more than just a game show host. He was a sharp and very funny stand-up comedian for which I'm sure he would rather be remembered. Both were/are very good with MOPs, yes, but that's about all with Forsyth. I know he likes to think of himself as a bit of musician as well - but he isn't that good, although his enthusiasm makes up for what he lacks in talent.
I'm afraid that I could never see what Roy Castle was supposed to be - he was a bit of a 'Jack-Of-All-Trades', but, for me, he wasn't outstanding at anything he ever did and I always felt that many could have done a lot better.
I have always thought that Roy Castle was one of the most talented Entertainers of all time, he had so many different talents, wonderful Entertainer and great human being.
Perhaps with a bit more guidance he could have been honed into something?
but I found his routines were all a bit
"look at me I'm clever I can sing, dance or anything and upstage any of you here"
As for the nonsense about passive smoking- when mega talent like Frank Sinatra sang in more smokey clubs than he ever could imagine, smoked himself (one time 60 a day)and then lived till he was 86.

Although Roy Castle was undoubtedly irritating at times, he was hugely talented and a great presenter on 'The Record Breakers'. He was always so full of life and enthusiasm!
