Possibly Nine Men?
Way back in the early sixties when I was an army cadet, we were shown a war film for some unknown reason, and I've never seen it since.
It must have been made around about the fifties, black and white, and I've no idea who was in it.
It's WW2, in the desert, a group of British squaddies are holed up in some kind of building, possibly a fort or blockhouse, and are attacked by Italians.
The one thing that stands out is that one of them writes a note on a scrap of paper and "nails" it to a wall inside the building with a bullet. Near the end of the film one of them takes the bullet out of the wall to load into his rifle.
A bit vague I'm afraid, and to be honest I'm not even sure I'd recognize the title, but I thought I'd give it a go.
Cheers
Sid
Wow! I think you may well be right. It could have been a wartime film rather than fifties come to think of it, it was in the same vein as David Niven's The Way Ahead.
Thanks for that
It's definitely Nine Men.
