This was on tv a few years ago, the stunning Anoushka Shankar, daughter of Ravi, played a set. Why it can't be televised again I'm not sure, would make a change from the Glastonbury thing, where people go just to say they've been.

There should be a smiley after that. Cream did a reasonable version of Booker T's "Born Under a Bad Sign"
    Booker T wrote it

This is a part of the festival called "Taste the World" where some of the visiting musicians cook for you a local dish & talk about life in their part of the world etc....
This is El Tanbura an Egyptian band of musicians who were actually playing in Tahrir Square in January this year during the revolution (type it into you-tube...)
    Mind blowing music......

    Cheers

I only took a few photos......here's another very good band "Donso" who were very well received on the Charlie Gillett stage....
My poor old ears couldn't cope when they turned up the volume and had to move back...

They are a group from Mali/France..."Malian tradition meets Parisian futurism"

Bet you had a great time, Alan.

One of the best things Peter Gabriel has created - he's one of my all-time 'heroes' in the music world. His Real World label and studios are fantastic too - but I think you will have heard of that.......and that goes for you too, Jimbo.

    Morning Alan,

No I have never been there (yet) but it's most certainly right up my street! I remember insisting on seeing Baaba Maal with friends who'd never heard of him - free concert out in the open here at one of the two market squares about ten years ago, during an international Culture Week. I had heard of him and it was a most fantastic concert!

When I first heard of Loreena McKennitt in 1992, that sort of became a snowball effect - I started listening to World Music more and more, and soon enough I found the world of Peter Gabriel. Loreena, by the way, has been recording at Real World Studios for years now, and she's spontaneously been inviting other musicians from other recording spaces there, at the dinner table. The results, with their indigenous instruments, are incredible.

WOMAD is one of the best cultural things I have ever come across. Wow........
