    But was the phone working? The box is now a listed monument listed by Historic Scotland as a Category B building (or structure) of local importance. This should mean it will be preserved for future visits, even though it may be impractical and it will prevent it from being "upgraded" to a more modern style. But when Monica was there she said it didn't actually work as a phone. That's no good. As mobile signals are so poor in areas like that it's essential for the locals to have a landline phone - and for tourists to make calls to their friends and quote Torquil's line "I have a small one"

    The phone wasn't working last October and Robert B was going to get BT to do something about it. They don't seem to have prioritised it yet.
