I somehow managed to miss this ITV series until now; it must have been shown here at some point but I can't recall seeing it.

I found the DVD series at our (excellent) local library and we have been watching them as a family. They are enjoyable and clever. Elaine Stritch is someone I can respect from a distance but she is usually too much to take. She has a sort of cult following here but I don't like that type of over-the-top carrying on. But here she is more than matched by Donald Sinden and the whole thing works very well, as they develop an immediate rapport.

Very nice scene: Stritch takes Sinden to have his sprained ankle taken care of, and runs up against a young Penelope Keith - who is more than her match as well.

I know what you mean about Elaine Strich, Tim.
There's a sharpness to the character that is a bit much allright, although her one woman show was rated with the best, so maybe I should explore further.
Donald Sinden's class seems to grow with the passing years.
He was excellent in this series and I also really like his pairing with Windsor Davies in the comedy series"Never The Twain", of which the first 2 series (or seasons for you!) have at last been issued on DVD.
    His voice alone is fabulous.

Never the Twain is another series I have not heard of. I will look for that on DVD.

TWO'S COMPANY was must-see viewing in our house when it was originally screened. The casting of Stritch and Sinden was absolutely perfect and the dialogue for them was spot on!

I just watched The Battle of Devereaux Dale episode - very enjoyable. Donald Sinden's timing is impeccable here as well. Thanks.

I do like Elaine Stritch - have you heard her singing "I'm still here"? very amusing - best version ever of the song. Let's face it, I really do like OTT performers because I would just love to be one - alas not to be.

Stritch & Sinden just complemented each other perfectly in this show.

We watched an episode about the obnoxious mother of Robert (Sinden) coming to visit and intending to settle in permanently, to her son's horror - until Stritch starts singing at the top of her lungs, flailing around and driving the mother literally into the street. Clever show.

The actress playing the mother looked familiar but I couldn't place here immediately. Then I remembered her from The End of the Affair - Joyce Carey. She created a real character in a few minutes.

I found that there are three more seasons. I had thought that there was only one. Very nice.

I was informed while watching by my musical-loving wife and sister that Elaine Stritch and Noel Coward had a strong mutual respect and liking. Now there is an Odd Couple. What a battle of wills that must have been.

I remember both Two's Company and Never the Twain very well. When the latter was repeated a few years ago I didn't find it as funny; I haven't rewatched Two's Company other than the one episode on the Network release of ITV Christmas Comedy.

Elaine Stritch is an amazing performer and singer; her one-woman show in the West End a few years ago was very entertaining indeed.

I read that she lived in London for several years.

I think I'm right in saying she lived at the Ritz hotel.

There was a poor American version starring Peter Cook as the Butler, I seem to recall... It was called: The Two of Us.
