It might be this Monty Python sketch - from a show they made in Germany in 1971 - you can see part of it here:

This was part of a British comedy set in the middles ages. I don't know if it was made for television.
A narrator is talking about a princess who has a pet on a leash - I think it's a rabbit. The rabbit (or whatever it is) is dead, but no one wants to upset her by telling her, and she is too stupid to know.
There are scenes of her 'walking it' by walking around a castle, swinging it round and round in the air on its leash. She 'feeds' it by stuffing a carrot in its mouth.
I believe it was made in the 70s. I thought it might have been part of the old Monty Python series but I can't find it anywhere. But I do think either Graham Chapman or John Cleese is in it (Could be wrong though)

Yup, 'A Fairy tale' (1972) Well I have it as 1972 in the back of my cobwebbed mind. However, it may have been in the Papperbok as a script. Can't remember for sure though. Pretty sure though that Euryale has the right sketch.
'I sentence you to be hanged by the neck until you cheer up'.![]()
Brilliant work, Euryale. And very well remembered, Tim. The images match your description perfectly. When did you last see it?
It's the sketch where the king (Michael Palin) likes singing but every song is "Yah te buckety ring ting too nick nick nick yeooww" or something similar i think
It must be 35 years!
Monty Python first appeared here in the early 70s and I started watching in 1974. That was when Upstairs and Downstairs and The World At War were on here as well - very different from each other, certainly, but all of outstanding quality. British television was a different world.
Python developed a cult following here quickly, especially among teenagers. The ratings were high, and the stations that showed them would run 'marathons' for hours. That must have been when this one from Germany was shown. I know that I only saw it once, but I thought it was very funny and could never find it again. That dead rabbit and the look of happy stupidity on the princess' face were so bizarre - it was the sort of humor that would never be found here - at least in the 70s. After a while I wondered if it was part of Python at all because it was no included on any video I had.
But the mystery is solved.
Its also on one of their records...erm that would be vinyl.....possibly Another monty Python record or maybe Matching Tie and Handkerchief
I would have to check.....also available on CD....![]()
