Coventry has been inundated with poor pissed-off looking chaps dressed as Domino's Pizza boxes standing at junctions on main roads and in the city centre. Just like the depression - Eat at Joes!

A truly depressing sign of the times in my opinion. I've seen them standing near schools at home time being jeered at by the kids - looking as if they wanted their boxes to swallow them up.

It's happening in Telord too according to this link.

Has anybody else seen the Box-men? What do you think? Have any other companies hit on this cheap way of advertising themselves this depression?

Your'e right GRAEME it is depressing and humiliating for those poor men who have to do it. Many years ago I worked for a window cleaner for a short while and we had to wear sweatshirts with his name and 'Simply the Best' on them, people would honk their horns and kids would sing the Tina Turner song, all very embarrassing, nonetheless it was a good skill to acquire and It's always been a good standby, great money if do it properly.

i havent exactly seen men dressed as pizza boxes but i have seen a few sandwich board men advertising similar junk food establishments .
national chain ones at that who you would think could afford more prestige adverts .

it does look a bit demeaning as well
employers taking advantage of the dire work situation i think

I haven't seen any pizza men in this way but I have seen that the local pizza deliverers delivering in what appear to be their own cars and presumably they pay their own petrol. I have wondered what the insurance deal is on this if they are carrying out *business use* on a private car insurance. I could remark that the delivery men look slightly as if they might be....... well... not local, if you get my drift.

What baffles me the most is that in the midst of these dreadful economic times there are customers flush enough to not only buy pizza instead of cooking spuds, but also are presumably generous enough tippers to give theses characters a living and pay for their fuel.

Now I find, by these accounts herein, that Domino's themselves are also making enough profits to employ blokes to stand about on street corners, pointing..... or do they just get a free pizza to take home at the end of their shift?

    Strange times....

As they probably don't have a clue of how to cook spuds, buying pizzas is their only option, poor devils

Haven't you ever thought about the cruel destiny of the Chinese Food Box Man ...with the two sticks on his head (bug style) ??

And not considering the terrible case of The MilkShake Man

First time I have seen anyone have a trader in to clean their domestic cooker...there was a van parked on the drive advertising that the firm cleaned cookers and other appliances.....how bad has the cleaning got to be to get the traders in to do it? Wonder if it would be cheaper to eat out?...
