A great critics eye view of the film from an American fan.

The first comment didn't show. So I posted another and then both turned up. Yes, I know he's very camp, but he's so enthusiastic and doesn't seem very tired to me, just an old queen.

Bobby Henrey sitting on the camera crane on the set at Shepperton Studios, watched by Carol Reed.
Scanned from a very old film magazine, so not of the highest image quality, but historic all the same.

A happy photo of a smiling Carol and Bobby on the set in late 1947.

I'm re-uploading these two stills that were recently deleted from this thread. TOP: Carol Reed give intense direction to Bobby Henrey on the set. BOTTOM: A low resolution image of a still that has so far eluded me. But I will come across it one day. Bobby Henrey presents the telegram to Ralph Richardson as Michele Morgan looks on.

This vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of Bobby Henrey, taken at Shepperton Studios in 1947 by Ted Reed, which has recently been added to my collection is a rarity indeed. Because it is dedicated by Bobby in his own hand to a fan: "Pour (for) Paul Carriere from Bobby Henrey" and the dedication could be over 68 years old. The print itself certainly is, going by the films original release data typed on the reverse. I have included a print out of this photo in with the Christmas card I am sending to Robert Henrey this year in the hope that he can shed light on who Paul Carriere was. However, as he signed so many photos of himself for fans at the height of his fame, it's unlikely he'll be able to remember, unless Paul was a close friend or relative.

Scanned from a page in The Sketch magazine dated November 10th 1948. Bobby Henrey runs through a bomb site near his home in Shepherd Market; enjoys the autumn leaves in his favourite playground, Green Park and, seen at home, the book-lover son of a writer reads and, happy to be a philatelist, studies one of the 400 stamps given to him for his collection by Sir Alexander Korda. Photographed by Chris Ware.

DBF, do you know of the Everett Collection of pre and early-post War film personalities? A selection of Fallen Idol and Bobby Henrey portraits are on the www.maryevans.com site, which I often peruse for new acquisitions for theatre and cinema heyday frontages. Best accessed simply via the search box facility on the Home Page there.

Thanks for the link, Rick. I've just been having a look at them. I have most of the stills on there, but there are three I haven't got, including the one where Bobby is showing the telegram to Sir Ralph...a still that has so far eluded me.
