This might be the title you are thinking of - The Viaduct (TV mini-series 1972) - IMDb
This was a TV series..I am pretty sure. There was boy with blonde hair who finds a beautiful, perfectly preserved early steam train , bricked up
in some railway arches..he lets his gang/ school friends see it..I dont remember anything else.

I can't recall where I read it, may have even been this forum, but I believe there is a steam locomotive buried beside the main line that runs through Elstree, I think they wanted a train crash for a film, a siding was used and the wrecked train was just buried afterwards, any ideas on this one anyone?
Gosh!...yes that is it...looking it up...I remember the final & third episode; Child of Brass & Iron, has a wall collapse actually revealing the old train him and his freinds had been searching for; "The Viaduct" Child of Brass and Iron (TV episode 1972) - IMDb would be wonderful to see it again...and in colour this time!
Following your information - i read "This was a made for For Schools Production, which was later repeated on the BBC as childrens TV". I now wonder if my previous query about a drama / film with a dust covered wedding dress in a glass case being opened by a young girl, to the horror of an old lady ( who then collapses) is actually a For Schools drama, shown around the same time as the above. Thanks.

In my home town there was a wagon works called The Viaduct because it was adjacent to the Nine Arches built by Stephenson. Until recently there was pub with the same name but I gather it has closed.
