The Beeb (presumably as a tie-in with Mark Gatiss recent Horror Europa documentary) as also showing Dario Argento's excellent Bird With The Crystal Plumage sometime over the next week.

The Horror Channel regularly screens British horror films.recent examples being Frightmare,Death Line,And The screaming starts.Very worthwhile,Frightmare is a real horror film with no happy ending.virtually everyone comes to a grisly end to satisfy mad mum.Death line is a great favourite with a marvellous performance from Donald pleasance.

    Aha, my pet subject.

I too remember the times when such screenings were common, and long for their return, showing both familiar and unfamiliar titles. Ditto 50s and 60s crime thrillers.

Of course, searching for people who shared these interests and passions led me to this site, and the Brit Horror board, and others....and now I'm constantly depressed and merely want to climb inside a time machine!!! Help!!!

And I now own most of the titles discussed above, if i didn't already. But it's not the same as the communal viewing experience. That's what I miss.

This Christmas Day, I am having guests around to my abode-----after food, drink and pleasentaries are exchanged, it is a 'draw the curtains' scenario----with ample helpings of Bride of Frankenstein and the Mummy front-projected, on a 10-ft wide screen, in blu-ray format. If the concept falls flat, the remedy is simply to consume more beer......

---if too much booze proves a problem, it is simply a Slumberland job....

I remember frantically pawing over the pages of both the TV and Radio Times, looking for horror, scifi or fantasy- not to mention crime b-pictures. I built half my social life around such things till I was about 17. I'm amazed i ever went out anywhere!!

Well, they say what goes around comes around, and 22 years on, I'm spending more and more time indoors watching the gogglebox again- except that these days it's all on DVD and VHS.
