A petrol station owner gets killed in Marilyn if that helps
Desperate to find the name of a black & white film set in the 50/60s about the murder at a filling station of the attendant. not much more info, sorry.
A petrol station owner gets killed in Marilyn if that helps
I think that is Crime Wave (also known as The City is Dark), a 1954 film noir directed by Andr De Toth starring the great Sterling Hayden.
Thanks for the quick reply. Is is not Crime Wave. Don't think it is Marilyn. It is set in England. Wish I could give you more info, but my memory is blank.
It also happens in Plunder Road.
Being a gas station attendant in film noirs is a dangerous profession.
A night watchman at a garage is murdered in The Boys (1962).

Perhaps it would be easier to list films with a petrol station attendant who doesn't get murdered![]()
Well done, Euryale. An excellent upload of the film, under its alternative title, on YouTube:

That's a different film, Cornershop. I meant this one:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0054697/
It was on Youtube for a while but it seems to have disappeared now. Available on DVD, though.

The Leather Boys is a completely different film to The Boys, though they do both feature Dudley Sutton. The Leather Boys is about motorcycling, The Boys is about a group of lads who are in court, charged with burglary and murder.
Nick
Apologies to both. It looks like I've confused my limited viewing of both these films.
BBC2 have definitely shown The Leather Boys within the last year. All I saw of it were the last ten minutes, where the main focus is on Colin Campbell. However, Nick's description of The Boys tallies with my memories of another viewing, again on BBC2, a year or two before. I only watched a few scenes of this as well, which were mostly in the courtroom, and took it for granted that the more recent transmission was the same film. It must be the Dudley Sutton connection - and the similarity in titles.
They're almost identical in price too, at Amazon - 8.17 for The Leather Boys and 8.36 for The Boys. Will wait 'til they're less expensive
(the films I mean!).

Tempted?
Nick
Based on what I saw on TV, not completely sure I'd like to add either film to my collection, Nick. And the picture quality of that video is remarkably good - enough to 'tempt' me to watch it on YouTube later. Then I'll know if I want the DVD - at an even cheaper price.
Bound to be easier viewing than the 16-part upload of Girl in the Headlines (which I certainly do want).
