Any insights to this newsreel footage would be appreciated.

Logically this has to be footage from Associated-British Pathe. Tony, I take it that you've had a look on their site?

The age of the buses suggests late fourties, early fifties.

    Unless someone knows better?

Could it be a 'spoof' documentary - a black and white film-within-a-film to make it look like an archive excerpt. Plenty of what would be to us old bangers still in daily service in the 1960's. I'm thinking that the RAC lettering might be only late sixties vintage......

I went to Pathe and Movitone frist - no luck there.

Not enought budget to fake the newsreel - this is either genuine footage or culled from another prouduction.

I'm thinking this is either a pre-war gas attack drill or a very early post-war nuclear attack drill.

Did Associated British Film Corp make any films that would have material like this?

Would have to dig out my copy to confirm, but I'm fairly sure this is footage from the 1950 film 'Seven Days to Noon', in which London is evacuated due to an atomic threat - the movie probably inspired the script for the episode as well.

Having looked at clips of Seven Days to Noon on YouTube I cannot see the actual footage from The Morning After, but it looks right, it looks very right.

Cooper S is right - lots of stills on the www.imcdb.org site - yet another fact about the series I did not know before.

Now all we have to do is identify the locations!

The first shot is the westbound carriageway of the A40 between Gibbon Road and Perryn Road, East Acton. Luckily, the houses on the right are among the few that survived the aborted road widening scheme.

To simplify things I'll give each road a number so we can fill in the gaps.

A40 between Gibbon Road and Perryn Road, East Acton - thanks to Alan

    Friary Road/Friars Way, Acton?

    A40 again?

    The Boltons, SW7?

There are a number of found locations for Seven Days to Noon on the reelstreets site, although none of the above.

I'm guessing No. 5 is around Barnsbury Square. But I could be way off.

Yep - I'm don't think so either. I can't tell if it is a public road or a park looking out on to a public road.

I watched Seven Days to Noon and it looks like they have used parts of the film and perhaps out-takes. On the picture number 5 the film pans to a church in the middle of a green.

    Thanks guys,

Other than pinpointing No.4 (A40, Acton) I think we have a clean sweep.

    Cheers,

    Tony

    More impressive research.

I'm almost moved to quote Hannibal Smith of The A-Team.
