Isn't it amazing? No matter how many faces I know, I still seem to forget the most welll known of them from time to time. I must stop hitting myself over the head with an iron bar. I now know that it 'does not' improve the memory.

    Thanks Gerald

MovieDude, I was surprised to see these faces in your gallery of Unnamed Extras for Far from the Madding Crowd:

    Apart from the last one, I know all of them: 1 - Jonathan Newth ('Gentleman at Cockfight'); 2 - Freddie Jones (Cainy Ball);
3 - Lawrence Carter (Laban Tall); 4 - John Garrie (Pennyways); 5 - Prunella Ransome (Fanny Robin); 6 - Howard Douglas?

I still haven't spotted Michael Beint (usually very distinctive) and he doesn't appear to be among your actors. Well done with
Robert Powell though. Future wife Babs left The Beat Girls and became one of Pan's People during the period this was filmed.

The more I look, the more faces I recognise. No. 7 is Harriet Harper (Temperance), 8 might be Walter Gale (Jacob Smallbury):

I think 19 & 32 are Vincent Harding (Mark Clark):

Like John Garrie, he's been one of my Britmovie subjects, at 'Uncredited Acrors'.
This is how he looked in Danger Man - I'm Afraid You Have the Wrong Number:

That's as much as I can do to help with this film. How about starting a thread called 'MovieDude's Unnamed Extras', where we can all have a go?

Thanks Cornershop. I've just checked the date of these images and find that I did this film over ten years ago, hence the poor quality of the images and the lack of attention to detail. I have been waiting for this to appear on tv again but it's one of those films which seems to get left out by broadcasters. I certainly need to redo this again. I suppose I will have to get the dvd.

I've heard of most of those names but have no images of them (till now) and as you point out it was a bit of a suprise to spot Robert Powell in one of his earliest appearences. I've made a note of them all and will get to them anon.

Some time ago I thought about another thread called 'MovieDude's Unnamed Extras' but decided against the idea as being too time consuming, I am now thingking again about this. Perhaps just the 'main' extra's in something and possibly a link to the rest on my extra's page?. Otherwise, with more than forty thousand images it would surely take up a huge amount of space on Britmovie not to mention the time it would take to construct! But it is a good idea. I'll have to look into it.

Hello again, MovieDude. Please make sure you get the right DVD. For years, I followed the considered opinions of Amazon reviewers and decided against two unpopular releases. The one I eventually ordered, from their American site, is apparently the "extended" version and looks beautiful:

We've had several identifications of Unnamed Extras in the last week (there was Casino Royale as well) so I think it is worth starting a thread. With Becket, I may have found (actors who look like) Brenda Bruce, Leon Eagles, Corin Redgrave, Peter Barkworth and Kevin Brennan - another of my Britmovie subjects!

Thanks for the heads-up Cornershop. I've been stung before with dodgy dvd recordings. I've now ordered that copy of Madding Crowd. My attempt at Becket also needs to be updated so I will buy that sooner or later as well.

Dad's Army looks like it will be tricky with so many unnamed actors appearing so regularly. Here are a few from the first two episodes. Is their a list of names anywhere?

I don't recognise any of those faces, MovieDude. Better luck with Father, Dear Father and Never Mind the Quality Feel the Width.

Later than planned, here are the Unnamed Extras I selected from Becket:

Left to right: Leon Eagles?; Corin Redgrave?, Kevin Brennan?, Brenda Bruce?; Peter Barkworth?

Cornershop I think you are right about Leon Eagles and probably right about Corin Redgrave but I'm not so sure about the rest. You have promted me to revisit this page and I found another three myself. Riggs O'Hara, Pat Halpin and Unknown Male 44. Plus I think #16 looks a whole lot like Charlie Price. So well done you and well done me. Thanks

Gerald. Do you mean #4 Hugh Hastings? I don't know the other names but will now keep an eye out for them.

Sorry Gerald. I'm a bit confused here. Are you saying Hugh Hastings shown here in the top pictures is the same guy as in the bottom pictures?

Sorry, no, I can't count. Hugh Hastings is 4 and Vic Taylor is 5. No. 3 must be Chris Franks.

Here's three faces I know but I'm not sure if I've forgotten their names or if they are still unknown. The first reminds me of Laurence Herder but I'm sure it's not him.

Thanks for agreeing with me about two of the Becket actors, MovieDude. Still think that's Kevin Brennan in the middle.

As for your latest set of mystery actors, I am seeing my 'Who Are These Policemen?' subject Roland Brand on the left:

Your capture from The Saint - The Effete Angler (1962) (which I will be watching again soon).

Ironically, he and Lawrence Herder (on the right) both played Henchmen in Goldfinger (1964):

Again! Of course it is. (Memory). Thanks Cornershop.

Ironically again, he and Lawrence Herder both appeared in this together. This being: 'Espionage The Weakling' 1962, Something I omitted to say earlier. (Memory)

And for some reason I had omitted Roland from Golderfinger (Memory). Now corrected.

My memory is so bad that I cannot remember whether I am forgetful or not!

    Memory block again!

This actor played an important role of a PC who dies while trying to rescue a family from a fire. He should have been credited for it. The lady is playing his wife. Both are very familiar. I bet someone out there knows them.
