    This was a movie or possibly a TV show (what we in the U.S. would call 'Masterpiece Theater' material) about a man from a lower class background - possibly with 'red brick university' degree - trying to become a physician. I think the show was filmed in the '70s or '80s, but set in pre-war England.

    The establishment is set up to allow only public school types to enter the profession.

    I remember one scene in which he goes over the requirements with his family. They want Latin, classical Greek languages, etc.

    His response is something along the lines of "Well, then, let's get started." I'm pretty sure he manages to get it done and become a doctor.
