I'm looking for the 1985 TV-film Ligmalion: A Musical for the 80s. Ligmalion was part of the BBC's Arena series and broadcast on BBC2 on April 8, 1985.

The bfi website (http://explore.bfi.org.uk/4ce2b6edd9fc6) describes Ligmalion as a "Drama documentary which takes the form of an up-dated version of Pygmalion. With a special music score by jazz group Working Week, with real "society" characters and locations from 1984." It starred Sting, Jason Carter, Tim Curry and was directed by Nigel Finch and written by David Leland.

There's also a 4 minute clip here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00jfm8t (which currently is not working for me).

I would be very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction for obtaining a copy of/viewing this film.

If anyone on this board has seen (and still remembers) it, a brief summary would also be great. Many thanks in advance!

Can't help with a copy, but I seem to remember (unless I'm thinking of something else) ...

    1. It was about teaching a young 'normal' boy how to lig and become one of the in-crowd simply through gab.

    2. The protagonist blagged a designer suit, then blagged his way into a super-hip party and met a member of Spandau Ballet wearing the same suit. Well, not the same suit, obviously ... You could tell that the ballet-boy was a bit peeved.

    3. Tim Curry had a delightful way of saying "m'boy".

    4. At one point our hero walked into Trafalgar Square and was confronted by a gang calling themselves the GLC - the Greater London Casuals. Casuals at this time being everything a zoot-suited hipster feared.

    5. It didn't work. Ironically, it was completely unhip throughout.

I bet scenesters from the time like Robert Elm have copies. Write to Jools Holland.

That sounds like the right one! Thanks a lot Rowdon, that's very helpful!
