In fact I thought it was Wild Geese until I saw WG
on TV recently. I think this other film was based in the African bush and from
the same era ie mid-late 70s.

At one stage a helicopter is prevented from
taking off by men jumping onto the skis and bringing it down.

Later a prop plane is pursued by jet fighters over the border, . That's really all I can
    recall. Thanks to all.

I think this might be The Wilby Conspiracy from 1975. Nicol Williamson plays some evil military enforcer who is trying to escape the vengeful local community (in think in South Africa) in the helicopter until enough of them grab it to prevent it taking off.

Another quality Sidney Poitier and Ralph Nelson collaboration. Couple of standout roles by Nicol Williamson as a secret policeman, Saeed Jaffrey as a foolish dentist and a sticky end for poor old Archie Duncan (TV's Little John). Lots of twists and turns in the plot to keep you interested. Found a DVD in the cheap bucket for 2.00 a few years ago and a very good addition to the collection it is.

I also suspect it could be the other Richard Harris effort - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079191/...nm_flmg_act_39
