Hi I'm trying to find the name of a film I believe was made in the 50s. A man was convicted of killing a man (possibly his wife's lover) and was sent to prison protesting his innocence. On his release he traced the man he was supposed to have killed and when he was offered a pardon in court then killed the man (shot?) saying he could not be returned to prison for killing a man that he had already served time for killing?. This may have been a B movie and I believe the supposed victim left the country on a ship .

I'm sure it isn't, but it sounds like elements of Robert Hamer's "The Long Memory".

That sounds real close to an episode of Peter Gunn featuring Torin Thatcher as the man out to kill the man he didn't murder, but was convicted of killing. It starts in London a decade or more earlier then switches to the present day in whatever American town Gunn lives in. It wasn't his wife's lover though. It was his business partner.

Batman - thanks for that it sounds a distinct possibility, now I need to find a copy to see if this is indeed the one. It was a film I saw as a youth and it has bugged me for years trying to find it.

I, like many other people, have been after a copy of this film for years ..... it seems to have vanished off the face of the planet ..... so if you do track it down, please let me know.

Since that movie doesn't appear to be available, you might want to check out the Peter Gunn episode with a similar double jeopardly plot. There is a Highway Patrol episode with the same premise and the Ashley Judd movie, Double Jeopardly. Of those versions, this is easily the best, and the only one after some confusion actually gets the law right.

Thanks to Will and Batman I am now sure this is the film I was looking for. The Peter Gunn episode was interesting following a similar plot line. Should I be lucky enough to find "Murder in Reverse " will post and let you know.
