I am trying to think of a British war film set in Norway, made during the war - I think - and it climaxed with British soldiers liberating the country.

I'd also say The Day Will Dawn, with a fresh-faced Deborah Kerr and the obligatory Finlay Currie.

Well The Day Will Dawn doesn't exactly finish with them liberating the country, just a small fishing village. The British forces carry out a raid (based on the real Combined Operations raids on the coastal towns in Norway), blow up a fish oil factory, kill the Quisling and then they head back to Blighty taking with them a few high ranking prisoners and some Norwegian patriots who want to join the Norwegian resistance or the government in exile in Britain

He is, Hugh is the leading character as racing tipster and journalist Colin Metcalfe who gets caught up in the Nazi invasion of Norway - and with Kari Alstad (Deborah Kerr)
